Sherrie has lived in Fort Collins, Colorado since 1982. She works in pastel with subjects that inspire and excite her. Having grown up in the Appalachian mountains of North Carolina she’s drawn to scenes and places that are moody and full of feeling. Sherrie’s awards include Honorable Mention for "Together at Ruby Beach" in the AANC 18th National Show 2009 and a Juror’s award for “Distant Thunder” in the 2006 Paint America Top 100.

Artist Statement
----------------------
Painting only subjects that touch me in some visceral way, I strive to capture a moment
or a feeling. Each painting is a revelation of who I am and how I see the world.
Growing up in the Appalachian mountains of North Carolina, I was given the chance to experience life in simple terms. Surrounded by age-old farms and a culture rich in tradition, I truly felt a part of the landscapes I painted.
Having moved to Colorado in 1982, I brought with me this same passion and have found the Colorado landscapes, culture and people to be equally moving.
Completed on location or in my studio, my paintings begin with many preliminary sketches to establish the composition. Applying color and value on my paper, I lose myself in the painting. Time ceases and life begins.
